Privacy policy

Short version: on this site we only collect what you send us, we use it to reply, and we don't sell it. Our mobile apps collect nothing themselves, but they show ads, and the ad network collects data of its own — that part is set out below.

Who we are

New Byte Order Ltd. For any question about this policy or your data, email info@newbyteorder.co.uk.

What this policy covers

This site, our email correspondence, and the mobile apps and games we publish — currently Scorched Tanks on Google Play. The sections below are marked accordingly, because the two are not alike: the site collects what you type, while the apps collect nothing for us and instead show advertising supplied by Google.

What we collect through this site

  • Enquiry details — the name, email address, company, budget range and message you submit through the contact form.
  • Correspondence — emails and call notes relating to a prospective or active engagement.
  • Server logs — standard request logs including IP address and user agent, kept for security and diagnostics.

Why we hold it

To reply to your enquiry and, if it becomes one, to deliver a project. Our lawful basis is legitimate interest for responding to business enquiries, and contract performance once you become a client.

Cookies on this site

This site sets no advertising or analytics cookies. ASP.NET Core issues an antiforgery cookie when you use the contact form; it is strictly necessary to protect the form against cross-site request forgery and is discarded when your session ends.

Who we share site data with

Nobody, other than the infrastructure providers that host this site and our email. We do not sell or rent personal data, and this site runs no third-party trackers. Advertising in our apps is a separate matter, described next.

Our mobile apps and games

Our apps have no accounts and no servers of our own. We do not collect your name, email address or location, and nothing you do in the game is sent to us. What the apps do carry is advertising, served by Google AdMob, and Google collects data through it.

What the ad network collects

  • Advertising identifier — the resettable ID your device provides for advertising.
  • Device and app information — model, operating system version, language, and the app and its version.
  • Approximate location — derived from your IP address, typically no finer than the region.
  • Ad interactions — which ads were shown, and whether they were viewed or tapped, including to limit how often the same ad repeats.

Google acts as an independent data controller for this, not as a processor working to our instructions. Its handling is governed by the Google privacy policy and by how Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services, including how long it is retained. We see only aggregate, anonymous performance figures — impressions and revenue — and never data about an individual player.

Your choice about personalised ads

In the UK and the EEA the app asks, on first run, whether you consent to personalised advertising. This is Google's User Messaging Platform prompt, and your answer is recorded on your device. Consent is the lawful basis for personalised ads; where you refuse, or where you are not asked, ads are still shown but are non-personalised — chosen from context rather than from a profile, though a limited amount of the data above is still processed to deliver and cap them, on the basis of our legitimate interest in funding a free game.

You can change your mind at any time: open the game's menu and choose Ad privacy options. You can also reset or delete the advertising identifier in your device's own settings — on Android, under Settings → Privacy → Ads — which applies across every app, not just ours.

How long we keep it

Enquiries that don't lead to work are deleted after 30 days. Client records are retained for seven years to meet UK accounting and contractual obligations. Server logs are rotated after 90 days. Advertising data is not ours to keep or delete — it is held by Google under its own retention schedule.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to our processing it. Email info@newbyteorder.co.uk and we'll respond within 30 days. If you're unhappy with our response you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

For advertising data, exercise those rights with Google directly, since it holds the data and decides what happens to it. Withdrawing consent through Ad privacy options in the game stops personalised ads from that point on; it does not erase what was collected beforehand, which is a request to make of Google.
